Workshop: SEXXXY Paragraphs

Brainstorm - Angles/Movement/Shots - Other the shoulder - show speaker puts us in listeners P.O.V. makes us part of the conversation

Diegetic sound Close-ups - shows the emotions of the two - nervous, anxious, mostly Peeta

Lightning/colour mad-sad  gloomy - grey, dark, dim lightning - works with C/U to highlight emotions on faces

Character/Dialogue - "I don't want them to change"

"I don't wanna be another piece in their game"

" If I'm gonna die I wanna be me"

Theme - Rich vs Poor, Hope & Rebellion, Struggle for power

What happened - Peeta & Katniss are having a conversation about how the games might affect them

Scene - " They Don't Own Me"

In the scene "They don't own me", dialogue is used to create a foreboding atmosphere. Katniss and Peeta are having a conversation about how the upcoming games might affect them. This is demonstrated by the quotes " I don't want them to change me", and " If I'm gonna die, Still wanna be me" spoken by Peeta. This shows that Peeta has a scene that he is going to have to do things that he doesn't want to do like kill others. This makes the audience feel sorry for Peeta because he is likely going to die, or to kill others to stay alive. The director did this to make us believe Peeta will die early and that being a tribute isn't something to celebrate but a loss of personal autonomy. This worked well with the dark colours of black greys which add to the foreboding atmosphere. This aspect can be contracted to when Peeta joins the career Pack one the games because they are cold-hearted killers which is what Peeta didn't want to be.

Workshop 5: Music - English

Tempo - speed of the music - fast/slow/moderate

Dynamics - Volume - how bad or quiet it is

Key - Major - happy sound, minor - sad sound

Rues Death, How is music used to create atmosphere = depressing/sad/mournful

minor, tempo-slow, dynamics-quiet, gets louder as Katniss raises her salute and district 11 riots

- What happened - Rue is killed, Katniss tries to give her body the closest to a burial that she can.

- Colour/Lightning - White flowers, natural lighting, greens stands out.

Symbol - innocent and pure - Rue never killed everyone, kind, compassionate, victim

- Shots/Angles - medium close-ups - Rue and Katniss - see their emotions and facial expression - anguish

- High Angle - weak and vulnerable - Rue is an innocent and blameless victim

Effect on the viewer - The atmosphere of remorse/intense sadness, as the volume increase it builds the intensity of the emotions - we see emotions are contagious - hope.

Director Purpose: feel Katniss emotions at that moment - remorse, anger, helplessness, atmosphere, rebellion

Symbol of 3 finger salute is a sign of defiance and anger towards the game makers - you will take my humanity, also a symbol of unification with those who have lost loved ones to the games.

Music is used to create an atmosphere of sorrow and remorse in Rue's death scene. In this scene we see Katniss dealing with the slaughter of her young friend Rue. For example. The tempo is slow, the slow, dynamics are quiet and the key is minor to reflect the emotional rollercoaster that Katniss is feeling. Like the music, Katniss moves slowly and methodically to cover Rue's body in writing flowers. As she finishes, the music builds in volume, showing the increasing intensity of her anger and grief towards the capital. This makes us understand the pain experienced by the families of the tributes when they are killed each year. This was done to enable the viewer to feel the character emotions. This works well with the use of white flowers to symbolize Rue's innocents and purity and the high angle shot making her weak and valuable Combines with the music we are shown that Rue is a victim of the cruelty of the capital.

MRS GREN - Blobfish | Science

Movement - The blobfish primarily floats around and swallows crustaceans as they pass by.

Respiration - The blobfish's respiratory system uses a process called countercurrent flow to obtain oxygen because it does not have lungs. Countercurrent flow occurs when the water and blood within the body of the fish go in opposite directions across the gills to diffuse as much oxygen into the blood as possible.

Sensitivity - Blobfish has no sensitivity and it is not sensitive to things that can affect (influence) it because ultimately blobfish are just slightly sentient lumps of FAT.

Growth - The blobfish, whose scientific name is Psychrolutes Marcus, grows to as much as a foot long and contains almost no muscle at all. With no muscle, the fish are not edible to humans, as you would be eating mostly a big blob of gelatin.

Reproduction - The blobfish opens its big mouth, and food filters on through. The fish reproduce by laying thousands of eggs in nests. Several females often nest near one another, and they hover over their eggs until they hatch.

Excretion - The blobfish has a very small digestive system compared to most species of fish; however, the process of breaking down food in the body is very similar. Finally, the food is excreted through the anus at the bottom of the fish.

Nutrition - Their diet consists of small crustaceans like crabs, sea urchins, and shellfish. These goodies are sucked into the blobfish's mouth as it floats along. Lacking both bones and teeth, they do not actively hunt.

English/Brainstorming

Drug addicts should be offered rehab than prison sentences.

I agree that drug rehab is a much better alternative to jail time because everyone can change and take rehabilitation to help them get their back, keep, or improve the abilities they need for their daily and be more active in life.

Vietnam song

Give peace a chance by John Lennon - Link
The message about this song is war does not solve all problems but if you "give peace a chance" it may be a better solution to solves all the problems in war. The song also mentions that the most popular subjects are all this gossip and controversial or debatable topics and opinions. The way the writer of the song sees's it there is no need for that sort of thing in our world.
